The Washington Soldiers Home is located on 174 acres in the Puyallup Valley near Orting. Established in 1891, it was the first of four homes built for Washington state veterans. The home serves 128 residents at nursing-home level, with no assisted living. It is Medicare and Medicaid certified and provides 24-hour nursing care, medical care, and pharmacy services. The campus hosts a separately operated Transitional Housing Program for veterans and sits next to the Veterans Village operated by New Horizon Communities. Amenities include physical and occupational therapy, recreational activities, hospice, transportation, and a fishing pond. Pierce County, Washington.

Cost. Veterans rated 70%, 100% Service Connected Disabled, or whose service-connected disability is the reason nursing care is needed, may have nursing home care paid by the federal VA. Also accepts Medicare, Medicaid, third-party insurance, and private pay.
