WA Senior Support is a free, independent guide to senior services in Washington. We try to collect as little about you as we can. This page explains what we collect, who helps us run the service, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
If you create an account. You can browse the whole site without an account. If you sign in (by email link or with Google) to save your situation and track applications, we store your email address and, for Google sign-in, the basic identity Google returns. Signing in sets cookies that are necessary for your account and your saved tracking to work.
Your saved situation. If you fill out the optional “About your situation” form, we store what you enter: county, ZIP, age range, veteran or surviving-spouse status, whether you own your home, household size, income range, asset range, and which programs you are already on. We store income and assets as ranges, never exact amounts, and we do not ask for a Social Security number, bank or account numbers, or a date of birth.
Applications you track. For each application you choose to track, we store the program, its status and stage, any dates you add (submitted, decided, renewal due, next call), a caseworker name and phone if you enter them, a reference number, your notes, and your document checklist. This is your private tracker, and only you can see it.
The AI assistant. When you use the chat, your messages are sent to our AI provider, Google (Vertex AI), so it can write an answer. Each request also includes up to your ten most recent messages for context, and, if you are signed in, your county and your veteran and homeowner status from your saved situation. We do not send your income, assets, ZIP, notes, or caseworker details to the model. We do not store the text of your chat messages in your account; only the conversation history saved in your own browser keeps it, and you can clear that at any time.
Site analytics. We use PostHog and Vercel Analytics to see how the site is used, such as which pages people visit and whether a guide was marked helpful. These tools may set cookies and record general details like your approximate location and device type. PostHog also records a sample of visits as session replays so we can see where people get stuck; these recordings mask the page, hiding the on-screen text and anything typed into a form. This analytics activity is kept anonymous and is not linked to your account, even when you are signed in.
Feedback you send. If you use the “Was this helpful?” buttons or send a note, we keep your rating and message, the page you were on, your browser’s user-agent and referring page, and a one-way hashed form of your IP address (used to limit spam, not to identify you). You do not have to give your name or any contact information.
Quiz answers. If you use a quiz, your answers are used to show you results. We do not attach your name to them, and we do not send your quiz answers along with feedback.
Who helps us run the service
We rely on a small number of service providers, each handling only what its job needs:
- Supabase stores your account, saved situation, and tracked applications.
- Google (Vertex AI) generates the chat assistant’s answers from the messages described above.
- PostHog and Vercel provide the site analytics described above.
How long we keep it
- Your account, saved situation, and tracked applications stay until you edit or delete them, or delete your account.
- Chat history lives only in your browser (the most recent messages) and stays until you clear it or clear your browser data.
- Session replays are kept for 30 days and then deleted. Other analytics events are retained by our analytics providers under their standard retention.
- Feedback you send is kept so we can keep improving the pages it points to.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We take no referral fees from any provider listed, and no one will cold-call you because of this site. We do not sell health-related information, and we do not hand it to advertisers for their own use.
Your choices
- You can block or clear cookies in your browser at any time. Analytics cookies are optional; the cookies that keep you signed in are needed only for the account and tracker features.
- Every question in “About your situation” is optional.
- Use “Clear conversation” in the chat to remove its history from your browser, which matters most on a shared or public computer.
- You can delete your account from the account page. This immediately removes your account, your saved situation, your tracked applications, and your checklists. Site analytics are anonymous and are not tied to your account, so there is nothing account-linked to remove there.
- You can ask us to access or delete information about you.
