Continuing Care Retirement Community Registration

Since July 1, 2017, any business operating as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Washington must register with DSHS and be listed on the department's CCRC registry. A business that is not registered may not call itself a registered CCRC in its advertising or marketing. To register, a business submits DSHS Form 14-547 (the CCRC Registry Application) along with disclosures, residency agreements, an attestation, financial statements, and fees made payable to the Washington State Treasurer. Renewals use DSHS Form 15-556 (the CCRC Addendum) plus updated financial statements. DSHS issues the registration within 60 days of getting a complete application. The state only checks that the application is complete. Registration is not a certification or a license. Consumer complaints are sent to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. A 2022 state study looked at gaps in how CCRCs are regulated and how their finances are overseen.
