Washington Kinship Navigator Program

Kinship Navigators are staff (and in some communities Resource Persons or support group leaders) whose job is to help relatives raising children navigate Washington's public benefits, healthcare, child care, food assistance, legal services, and other supports. Navigators are available to answer questions for relatives in 39 Washington counties, with Tribal Kinship Navigators also serving tribal communities. The program has been designated a Nationally Exemplary Kinship Program.

Who qualifies

Grandparents, other relatives, or family-friend caregivers raising a child who is not their own (kinship caregivers) in Washington state. No income restriction is mentioned for navigator services.

What it covers

Free help locating and applying for kinship-relevant services: financial help, child care, free/reduced-price food, foster care resources for children with intellectual/developmental disabilities, free recreational passes, healthcare and dental, mental health and substance use services, legal options and child support resources, and statewide reference guides.

Cost

Kinship Navigator services are free to caregivers.
