Washington Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC)
Washington State Department of Revenue (DOR)
The Working Families Tax Credit is a refundable state credit administered by the Department of Revenue. Individuals and families may receive up to $1,330 back per year if they meet eligibility requirements similar to the federal EITC. Eligible filers can apply for the current tax year and for prior tax years 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, DOR sometimes mails letters notifying residents they may qualify for past refunds. Applicants can receive their refund by direct deposit, paper check, or prepaid debit card (no bank account required).
Who qualifies
Per the program hint and DOR eligibility page (eligibility detail page renders via JavaScript and was empty when scraped, so detailed thresholds were not captured): applicants must have lived in Washington for at least 183 days in the tax year, have a valid SSN or ITIN, be eligible for the federal EITC, and either be age 25-64 or have a qualifying child. Income limits mirror federal EITC tiers and vary by filing status and number of qualifying children.
What it covers
Refundable state tax credit of up to $1,330 per year. Seniors without qualifying children typically only qualify if they are also working and fall in the 25-64 age band, but seniors with qualifying children (e.g. grandparents raising grandchildren) can claim it.
Cost
Refund only, no fee to apply. Specific income tiers were not captured because the dedicated eligibility page is JavaScript-rendered; refer to DOR for current EITC-aligned thresholds.
